The LATAM Early Career Award


The LATAM Early Career Award has been created to recognize to a young individual who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the field of Structural Health Monitoring.

Winners of former editions:
2023 : Dr. Julián Sierra-Pérez, Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Colombia


I. Eligibility

The LATAM Early Career Award will be awarded to a young researcher (maximum 10 years after presentation of the Doctoral Thesis) with PhD level or equivalent, who has done internationally recognized publications and research contributions in the field of Structural Health Monitoring.
It is considered as a positive criteria if works were done in LATAM countries, or by people born in these countries, but it is not a requirement for eligibility. Research quality is a main criteria, and candidates from all over the world are welcome.


II. Nomination procedure (2026)

Presenting authors of papers submitted to the LATAM-SHM 2026 Workshop who fulfill the former eligibility criteria may ask to be considered as candidates to the Award, by sending an email with his/her CV, to latam-shm2026@ing.uchile.cl, before December 1st, 2025.


III. Award Committee

A selection committee consisting of internationally renowned experts in the field of Structural Health Monitoring, among the LATAM SHM Scientific Comittee members. The chairperson of the committee is Professor Fu Kuo Chang, from Stanford University.


IV. Award presentation

The award will be presented during the LATAM-SHM 2026 Gala dinner.
