The integration of sensing technologies has substantially advanced structural assessment, particularly in recent years. Non-contact systems—such as imaging and video-based methods—provide clear advantages in terms of rapid deployment and minimal interference with the structure, and they serve as an effective complement to conventional instrumentation. The maturation of these tools has broadened their application beyond structural health evaluation to include the development of detailed structural models and the characterization of complex behaviors involving multiple failure mechanisms, discontinuities, and other critical phenomena. This presentation will illustrate how image-based techniques can be leveraged to assess structural response, enabling model validation and providing design recommendations that can be included in design codes for reinforced concrete structures.
